How to Play Dragon Tiger

Dragon Tiger is a card comparison game. One card is dealt to Dragon. One card is dealt to Tiger. The higher card wins.

Aces are the lowest card in Dragon Tiger. Kings are the highest. All other cards rank by face value. A 2 is the second lowest. A Queen sits just below King.

If both cards are the same rank, it is a tie. Dragon and Tiger bets lose half their stake on a tie. Players who bet on Tie win.

There are no drawing rules. No third cards. No decisions to make after placing your bet. The round ends when the two cards are revealed.

Dragon Tiger Bets and Payouts

Dragon and Tiger are the main bets. Both pay 1:1. On a tie, you lose half your bet. The house edge on each is about 3.73%.

Tie pays 8:1 at most tables. The house edge is 32.77%. This is one of the worst bets in any live casino game. Avoid it.

Suited Tie pays 50:1. Both cards must be the same rank and the same suit. The house edge is about 13.98%.

Big and Small are side bets available at some tables. Big means the card is higher than 7. Small means lower than 7. A card of exactly 7 loses both bets. Both pay 1:1 with a house edge of about 7.69%.

Odd, Even, Red and Black side bets are also available at select tables. Red and Black is the fairest side bet on the table with a house edge close to 3.8%.

Stick to Dragon or Tiger for the best odds. Tie is a bet that pays well on the rare occasions it lands but costs too much over time.

Dragon Tiger vs Baccarat

Both games use road maps. They share the same live dealer setting. Rounds are fast on both. But they differ in a few key ways.

Baccarat has a lower house edge. The Banker bet in baccarat sits at about 1.06%. Dragon Tiger's main bets sit at 3.73%. Over a long session, that difference matters.

Dragon Tiger is faster. Rounds take 25 to 30 seconds. Baccarat rounds take 45 to 90 seconds. Dragon Tiger suits short mobile sessions and players who want more rounds per hour.

Baccarat has drawing rules for the third card. Dragon Tiger has none. You pick a side, one card is dealt to each and the round ends.

Road maps work the same way on both games. Players who already read baccarat roads can follow Dragon Tiger roads without any adjustment.

If you want the best long-term odds, baccarat is the better choice. If you want the simplest and fastest card game at the table, Dragon Tiger is the one.

Dragon Tiger Game Variants

  • Lightning Dragon Tiger adds random multipliers each round. Before cards are dealt, one suit is randomly chosen as the Lightning Suit. If the winning card matches that suit, a multiplier of 2x to 8x applies. The base game stays the same. The multipliers add a big-win chance on top.
  • Super Speed Dragon Tiger cuts the time between rounds. Betting windows are shorter and dealing is faster. All standard bets are still available including Suited Tie at 50:1.
  • Dragon Tiger Phoenix adds a third hand. Dragon, Tiger and Phoenix each receive one card. The highest card wins. A tie between any two hands pays 7:1. All three cards matching pays 20:1. Evolution released this variant in 2025.

All three are from Evolution and are available at casinos that carry Evolution's full live library.

Where Dragon Tiger Came From

Dragon Tiger started in Cambodia. It grew from the land-based casino culture in Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville, where simple and fast card games were popular on the casino floor.

From Cambodia it spread to Vietnam, then Thailand, then wider across Southeast Asia. The Macau casino boom in the 2000s helped push it further. As Asian online casinos grew, Dragon Tiger moved online with them and reached new markets including India and the Philippines.

The name connects to two of the strongest symbols in Asian culture. The dragon represents strength, luck and prosperity. The tiger represents power and courage. These symbols carry weight across China, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. Players are not just picking a side at the table. They are picking a symbol.

Today Dragon Tiger is most popular in Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines and India.

Licence Verified
Every casino EightOdds recommends has its licence number checked against the official register of the body that issued it. An unlicensed casino has no legal obligation to pay out and no authority a player can complain to.
🔒
Security Confirmed
Every casino EightOdds recommends uses SSL encryption to protect account and payment data. Casinos that cannot confirm current security standards are excluded regardless of how they perform elsewhere.

Every casino EightOdds recommends is tested on Android and iOS in-browser. Casinos that load slowly, break on smaller screens or hide payment options on mobile are ranked lower.
