Why UPI Works for Sportsbook Deposits
UPI (Unified Payments Interface) is India's bank-to-bank transfer system. It links directly to your bank account and sends money in seconds. No card, no wallet top-up, no waiting.
For sportsbook deposits, UPI has three things that matter:
- Instant: Funds land in your sportsbook account within seconds of authorizing the payment.
- INR: You deposit in Indian rupees directly from your bank. No currency conversion fees.
- Free: UPI does not charge transaction fees. Neither do the sportsbooks that accept it.
Most Indian players use PhonePe or Google Pay as their UPI app. Both work across every major bank in India and are accepted at most sportsbooks in India and online casinos in India.

Which UPI Apps Are Accepted
PhonePe
The most widely accepted UPI app at offshore sportsbooks. Works across all major Indian banks. Deposits process instantly and minimum amounts typically start between ₹100 and ₹300 depending on the sportsbook.
Google Pay
Accepted at most sportsbooks that take Indian players. Same instant processing as PhonePe. Some sportsbooks set a slightly higher minimum for Google Pay deposits. Check the cashier page before transferring to confirm the minimum.
Paytm
Paytm's UPI service went through major changes in early 2024 when the RBI directed Paytm Payments Bank to stop accepting new deposits. Paytm UPI now runs through partner banks including Axis Bank, HDFC, SBI and Yes Bank. The app still works for UPI transfers but not every offshore sportsbook accepts it. Check the cashier page before registering. If Paytm is not listed, use PhonePe or Google Pay instead.
BHIM is another UPI option but is less commonly listed at offshore sportsbooks. Stick with PhonePe or Google Pay for guaranteed acceptance.
How to Make a UPI Deposit
The process is the same across most offshore sportsbooks. It takes under two minutes.
- Log in and go to the cashier. Look for Deposit, Cashier or Wallet in the top menu or your account area.
- Select UPI as your payment method. Some sportsbooks list it as UPI. Others show the app names directly: PhonePe, Google Pay or Paytm.
- Enter the deposit amount. Check the minimum before typing. Most sportsbooks set it between ₹100 and ₹500.
- Scan the QR code or enter the VPA. The sportsbook will show either a QR code to scan with your UPI app or a VPA (Virtual Payment Address) in the format name@bankname. Enter it manually if there is no QR code.
- Authorize with your UPI PIN. Open your UPI app, confirm the amount and merchant name, then enter your 4 or 6-digit UPI PIN to approve the payment.
- Wait for confirmation. Funds appear in your sportsbook account within seconds. You will get a confirmation on both the sportsbook page and your UPI app.
How to Avoid Withdrawal Delays Before You Deposit
This is the most important thing to get right before you make your first deposit.
Three names must match exactly:
- The name on your sportsbook account
- The name on your UPI registered profile
- The name on your Aadhaar or PAN card
If any one of the three is different, your withdrawal will be held until you verify your identity. This is the most common reason Indian players wait days for a payout that should take hours.
Common mismatches that cause problems: registering with a nickname instead of your legal name, leaving out a middle name, using initials instead of a full name, or spelling your name differently across accounts.
Before you register at a sportsbook, open your UPI app and check the name shown in your profile. That is the name to use when creating your sportsbook account. Then confirm it matches your Aadhaar or PAN exactly.
Most sportsbooks do not allow name changes after registration. If you registered with the wrong name, contact support before placing your first withdrawal request.
Deposit Minimums and Withdrawal Times
Minimum deposits
Most sportsbooks that accept UPI set a minimum deposit between ₹100 and ₹500. A few set it as low as ₹80. Check the cashier page of your chosen sportsbook before funding your account. Minimums vary and are not always shown on the main deposit page.
UPI daily cap
NPCI sets a UPI transaction limit of ₹1,00,000 per day across all UPI apps. This is a system-wide cap, not a sportsbook restriction. If you plan to deposit more than ₹1,00,000 in a single day, you will need to split it across multiple days or use a different payment method such as IMPS bank transfer.
Some banks also set their own daily UPI limits below the NPCI cap. Check your bank app if a large transfer is getting declined.
Withdrawal times
UPI withdrawals at most offshore sportsbooks process within 1 to 24 hours. Your first withdrawal takes longer because the sportsbook runs KYC verification before releasing funds. After the first withdrawal is cleared, subsequent payouts are faster.
Minimum withdrawal amounts are typically ₹500 to ₹1,000 depending on the sportsbook. Check the withdrawal page before requesting a cashout.
What to Do If Your UPI Deposit Fails
UPI deposits fail occasionally. The fix depends on what went wrong.
The money left your bank but did not arrive in your sportsbook account
Check your UPI app for the transaction. Every completed UPI transfer generates a UTR (Unique Transaction Reference) number. Copy it and contact the sportsbook support team with that number. They can trace the transfer and credit your account manually. This usually resolves within a few hours.
The payment was declined before leaving your bank
Three common causes: you entered the wrong VPA, your UPI PIN was entered incorrectly, or your bank's daily limit was reached. Double-check the VPA or QR code, confirm your PIN is correct, and check your bank app for your remaining daily transfer limit.
The QR code expired
Most sportsbooks generate a new QR code for each deposit session. If you took too long to scan it, it may have timed out. Go back to the cashier and start a new deposit request to get a fresh code.
The sportsbook payment gateway is down
This happens occasionally during high-traffic periods. Wait a few minutes and try again. If the same UPI app keeps failing, switch to a different one. If PhonePe fails, try Google Pay, and the other way around. Gateway issues are usually resolved quickly. For guides on other payment methods used by Indian players, see our India payment guides.
